about

The first in a series of re-interpretations of the Mystic Moods Orchestra's 1972 classic 'Highway One'

For those that don't know - 'Highway One' was an epic quadrophonic masterpiece which involved symphonic elevator music, some vaguely disturbing poetry, and a vast array of water related sound effects - and most importantly, cover art containing at least one pair of naked breasts.

People knew how to make art for art's sake in 1972. The home stereo was the domain of a family's alpha male, who would spend hours tweaking amplifiers and maintaining styluses before sitting in a zen-like state in a brown leather chair placed at the precise centre point of the room, absorbing the music, and scouring record covers for hidden meanings. Unwarranted incursions from either women or children were emphatically discouraged, as they could be detrimental to the necessary concentration.

It was a very serious business, entertainment...

The purpose of these experiments is to recapture some of the atmosphere of those bygone days. So send everybody out of the room, sit down in the precise centre of the stereo image, light a cigarette (if you don't smoke, you may need to take it up), drink something brown and strong and preferably alcoholic, and mentally transport yourself to a beach on an overcast day. Taste the salt on your lips, brace yourself against the chill of the afternoon, watch the waves break on the shore and just....

....listen.
