about

Everybody seems to be looking backwards nowadays - bands from 20 to 30 years back reform, old albums get remastered, old movies get remade, people filming events on their phones start viewing the footage and reminiscing while the event is still going on....

I've spent a lot of time mocking this sort of trend, but then it occurred to me that 2013 would mark the tenth anniversary of the Toxic Al part of my musical life, and I started getting all nostalgic myself, and thought "Hey, why not me?".

I may never have been a household name, but I was a founder member of a respected and moderately successful mid-level band, I've played festivals and things, played supports for internationals, been signed to a label, had massive debts run up in my name, toured interstate, gigged some iconic local spots, some of which are now extinct (The Tivoli, The Alley, The Rev....), shared stages with some of Brisbane's finest (Rainman, The Optimen, Lazy Grey, The Serenity, Mr Laneous...), been on the cover of various magazines, signed the odd autograph, got a bunch of airplay (some of it on fairly large stations - even that big mainstream one that likes to portray itself as an underdog), and in terms of underground Australian hip hop, I've gigged with and/or met a whole bunch of people, some of which you will have heard of.

So I started trawling through the old dusty spaces on my hard drive, reliving some old memories, playing back bits of music I'd almost forgotten making, and realising that there were actually quite a few things worth keeping that had fallen through the cracks at the time.

So here is the result - a few sonic snapshots of the last 10 (ish) years.

This first part consists of out-takes, remixes, unreleased material and leftovers from the Coalition Crew period (2003-2007).
